WHISPER POET
Whisper is an amazing poet and inspiration. I met her through the Jshine platform on TikTok. She has a kind soul and spirit. She also creates gorgeous keep sake boxes that are one of a kind.
Whisper started writing in 2019 in the aftermath of her marriage ending as a way to release what she was going through. The first poem she wrote was at work sitting at her desk and a four-line poem popped into her head. The two lines that still hold space in her mind are: I'm reclaiming me and renting space in my head that is not free. As she wrote it down to release the thoughts from her mind, another came, and another, until she had a collection. From there she bought a composition book and spent the summer filling it up with over a hundred poems that were raw and unfiltered. This branched into many amazing things happening in her life including the poetry communities she has found. She is part of the Gorilla Poets. She hosts a story time on Tik Tok that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Whisper will see a box she is working on and think of someone in the community and just know its the box they need or be speaking to someone and say I want to make a box for you. She is thoughtful like that. She will check in to make sure you are okay. Her poetry crosses so many genres. She has very many impactful and eye-opening pieces that the world needs to hear that inspire change. Other pieces will have you rolling laughing, some wiill give you the motivation to get up and go. Many of her pieces are insightful to trauma and healing, bringing encouragement for others to heal.
The Heart of the Artist is the interview that she hosts on Zoom. She is interviewing one powerfully poetic woman in the community each month. These interviews flow with creativity, growth, and positivity. These interviews get uploaded to YouTube later for replays and those who missed these epic moments.
Sunday's radio show Jukebox Juice, Whisper says, "For some reason the title amuses me. It tickles my funny bone." She has positive affirmations throughout the show, to teach us how to be kind to ourselves and love ourselves.
This amazing poet has many manuscripts that she is working on. Her newest manuscript is called Exporting Explosive Lessons and Love Bombing and Other Traumas. This is a manuscript of essays delivered with passion and soul. These are more like prose, too long and narrative to really be a poem. "it's like a nice little sandwich size serving of prose on a single topic."
In October of 2024 she wrote a poem about Hurricane Helene and how it impacted the people of western North Carolina. It was submitted to an anthology called Improv in Black and White. This is an anthology of acrostic poems, where they are paired with images that represent what is going on with the poem. This piece was submitted with a photo she had taken years ago of a hawk flying above some trees at her parents place.
Another incredible piece can be found in an anthology on Amazon by PG and Publishing, who also has their own website.
Most of her work can be found mainly on TikTok where she creates poetry videos where words are more powerfully echoed with video and music.
Many poets across platforms have inspired her. This journey started out on Instagram where you can find more amazing things from her, later it evolved into TikTok. "It is inspirational to be in a poetry space and community that moves so powerfully. Charlotte, North Carolina has a very well-respected poetry community nationwide. She is honored to be able to enjoy that space with them. There is a high instance of people who serve in the community, and it is a beautiful thing to see happening and how people are engaging. It is the way the whole world should be. We've got to spread the love, are some powerful words this talented poet shares. We have to counter all the bad in the world with love.
Beads galore you will find in her possession, as she enjoys making jewelry. She enjoys photography and spending time with all of her playful cats.
Whisper quotes, "Poets are largely focused on helping the world be a better place. There is a high correspondence of social activism and being a poet. If you are going to write, you almost have that responsibility to carry that sword."
Words to our listeners from the great Whisper Poet, " Everyone should pursue their creativity, painting, sketching, music, whatever it is that fascinates you. The great thing about poetry is that you don't have to have anything special to do it. You just have to have a pencil and pieve of paper, or a phone to type or record on and start writing. If you can string words together, then you are a poet. Speak your truth. It doesn't matter if it rhymes, or how many lines, or words. Just speak your truth and share it. We just need to love each other, support each other. We need to put aside hate, enmity, anger, and misunderstanding. Embrace each other. If we can do that, amazing things can happen.
